KUALA LUMPUR: Families of the 54 Malaysians still unaccounted for after the Nepal flash floods and landslides have welcomed Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) readiness to facilitate financial assistance, but want a single, centrally coordinated framework.

Malaysia Solidarity: Families in Hope (MASFIH) spokesman Dr Manivannan Rethinam said BNM's indication that financial institutions may consider repayment deferments, fee and charge waivers, documentation flexibility and expedited insurance and takaful claims was a positive step.

"Given the unprecedented nature of this tragedy, we respectfully believe the next step should be a BNM-driven, centrally coordinated framework, rather than requiring 54 families to navigate different banks, insurers and financial institutions individually," he said in a statement.
