KUALA LUMPUR: Former Court of Appeal judge and prominent lawyer Datuk Mahadev Shankar has died at the age of 94.

Former Malaysian Bar president Christopher Leong confirmed his death, describing Mahadev as one of the leading legal minds of his generation, both at the Bar and on the Bench.

"His recognition by the Bar as a recipient of the Malaysian Bar's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014, the Bar's highest award, says it best of the man, lawyer and jurist that he was," he said.

Born in 1932, Mahadev was admitted to the Malayan Bar in 1956 and went on to build a distinguished legal career.
