Tourism growth contributed 15.9% to the national gross domestic product.KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 32.2 million international visitor arrivals from January to September this year, tourism, arts and culture minister Tiong King Sing told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Tiong said these figures are 2.4% higher than what was recorded in the same period last year. He also said the tourism sector generated RM323 billion, contributing 15.9% to the national gross domestic product.
In order to maintain this momentum, Tiong said the government had allocated RM935 million to the tourism, arts and culture ministry, including for the Visit Malaysia campaign from 2026 to 2027.
"As the Supply Bill 2027 is still being debated, the allocation planning (for this ministry) is subject to the finance ministry's final decision," he said when winding up the 2027 budget debate for his ministry.
