KUALA LUMPUR: The government is open to considering suitable international legal mechanisms to seek compensation for transboundary haze.
Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said the option could be explored as the Asean Agreement on Transboundary Haze Pollution currently has no provision for compensation claims between states.
"However, the government is open to examining other legal mechanisms, subject to the basis of international law.
"A comprehensive study of the economic losses caused by haze, including its impact on public health, productivity and economic activity, is important as a basis for policy considerations and further actions," he said.
