KLIA customs director Aspalila Ag Tuah said Malaysia is being used as a transit point to bypass export restrictions on the servers. (Bernama pic)SEPANG: The customs department at Kuala Lumpur International Airport has foiled an attempt to transit 30 servers containing advanced artificial intelligence chips worth nearly RM49.5 million without authorisation.
The chips could potentially be used in the development of military technology.
KLIA customs director Aspalila Ag Tuah said the seizure was made by a team from the KLIA customs enforcement division following an inspection of a warehouse at the KLIA Free Trade Zone on Oct 15.
She said preliminary investigations found that the servers had been brought in from an Asian country under a single air waybill declaring them as electronic components, allegedly to evade detection by the authorities, before being re-exported to another Asian country.
