KUALA LUMPUR: The national inflation rate dropped to 1.8 per cent last month compared with 1.9 per cent in August 2026, indicating that overall price pressures remain under control.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the government is not taking the situation lightly, given rising global fuel prices and mounting production costs.

He said global crude oil prices surged to US$116.80 a barrel compared with US$90.90 in August, while the domestic Producer Price Index rose 12 per cent in September 2026 from 10.7 per cent the previous month.

As such, he said the government has adopted a comprehensive approach through several key measures, including targeted subsidies to shield the public from the direct impact of higher fuel prices.
