The three Myanmar children charged in the Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court today with criminal intimidation of an elderly woman face up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, if convicted.PETALING JAYA: Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) has urged Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar to secure the immediate release of three Myanmar children denied bail after being charged with criminal intimidation.

LFL adviser Latheefa Koya described the decision to deny bail to the children aged between 11 and 12 as disturbing, particularly as they came from a vulnerable refugee community.

Latheefa said the denial of bail was unlawful as the offence was bailable, and the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) had itself proposed bail for the children.
