KUALA LUMPUR: A government backbencher has proposed making it compulsory for Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang and display the five principles of the Rukun Negara at homes, offices and business premises to strengthen patriotism and national unity.

Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) said the measures would encourage Malaysians to demonstrate their love and loyalty to the country while fostering a stronger sense of national identity.

"My proposal is that, starting next year, we make it compulsory for all Malaysians to fly the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of our love and affection for this beloved country," he said while debating the 2027 Supply Bill at the committee stage for the National Unity Ministry in the Dewan Rakyat.
