KUALA LUMPUR: The Selangor Customs Department has foiled an attempt to smuggle 44.5kg of ketamine worth more than RM2.22 million into the country through courier parcels falsely declared as medical supplies and marine equipment.

The seizure was made during an inspection of three imported courier parcels at a courier company's mail processing centre in Sepang on Aug 13 under Op Mekong Dragon VII.

Selangor Customs director Noraidah Ishak said the three parcels, which carried different air waybills, were believed to have been imported from a European country and addressed to recipients in Sepang.

"An inspection of the first parcel uncovered 15 plastic packages containing suspected ketamine weighing 15.265kg, while another 15 packages weighing 15.236kg were found in the second parcel.
