A 66-year-old retiree lost RM342,000 after being duped into transferring money into five bank accounts for a non-existent online casino investment scheme.
KUALA LUMPUR: A 66-year-old woman lost RM342,000 after allegedly falling victim to an online casino investment scheme promising lucrative returns.
Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Khairul Anuar Khalid said the private-sector retiree received a WhatsApp message last August from an individual seeking financial assistance, claiming to have suffered losses involving a casino cybersecurity company in Singapore.
He said the individual later introduced the woman to an online casino investment scheme, promising profits that eventually persuaded her to participate.
