KUALA LUMPUR: The Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) will file an application for a review of the Court of Appeal's decision to acquit and discharge celebrity preacher Da'i Syed of a rape charge.
The A-GC said it respects the appellate court's decision but has decided to file an application for a review after examining the grounds of judgment delivered by the panel of judges.
"The review application will be based on legal principles, as well as the criteria and threshold established for the exercise of the Court of Appeal's review jurisdiction.
"This is as outlined in the Federal Court's decision in the case of Asean Security Paper Mills Sdn Bhd v Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance (Malaysia) Bhd," the A-GC said in a statement.
