IPOH: A company supervisor lost RM143,599.90 after falling victim to a bogus stock investment scam promoted through a social media advertisement in Hilir Perak on Nov 4.

Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said initial investigations found that the 35-year-old victim was attracted by the stock investment advertisement before being contacted by an individual posing as an investment agent.

The victim was duped into transferring money to several bank accounts provided by the suspect.

"The victim was also instructed to download an investment application that displayed lucrative profits. However, the victim began to realise they had been scammed when they failed to withdraw the capital and profits displayed in the application," he said in a statement.
