Wayang kulit is among Malaysia’s traditional art forms that are gradually fading, and it is not inconceivable that one day this shadow theatre, once immensely popular across the east coast and northern and southern regions of the country, could become little more than a footnote in the nation’s historical records.

In the third installment of this special report, Bernama shares the story of a young practitioner whose passion offers hope that the traditional art can survive for generations to come.

While children his age may spend their free time playing video games, 10-year-old Nik Imanuddin Hadeef Nik Izdiharuddin is engrossed in wayang kulit puppets, practising different voices for each character just like a seasoned puppeteer.
