JOHOR BARU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has called for an emergency Asean meeting to collectively address the worsening transboundary haze crisis affecting Johor.
He said Asean needed to play a more active role, with member states pooling their expertise, assets and capabilities according to the needs of affected countries.
Onn Hafiz said he made the call during a meeting with Indonesian Consul-General in Johor Baru, Sigit Suryantoro Widiyanto, to discuss the transboundary haze affecting Johor, particularly air quality and public health.
He said the focus should not be on pointing fingers at any country but on finding a joint solution as the impact of the pollution had crossed national borders.
