In the defamation suit, sessions court judge Zulhazmi Abdullah previously ordered Dr RA Lingeshwaran to pay RM15,000 in costs after finding that P Ramasamy successfully raised the defences of fair comment and qualified privilege.

PETALING JAYA: The Penang High Court has allowed former senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran’s appeal against the Butterworth sessions court’s dismissal of his defamation suit against Urimai chief P Ramasamy.

Lingeshwaran said High Court judge Azlan Sulaiman set aside the sessions court’s April 30 ruling, which dismissed his lawsuit and ordered him to pay RM15,000 in costs.

"Instead, the High Court granted an injunction barring Ramasamy from repeating or republishing the statements that were the subject of the suit.
