KUALA LUMPUR: Private hospitals will be required to adopt standardised billing categories from 2027 to help patients better understand their medical expenses.
"From 2027, private hospital bills will use uniform and transparent categories of charges so that patients understand each payment and price distortions can be reduced," said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when tabling 2027 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government would also expand electronic medical records based on the principle of "one individual, one record".
He said the measures were aimed at improving transparency in private healthcare costs and ensuring patients had a clearer understanding of the charges imposed on them.
