KUALA LUMPUR: Faster licensing of private healthcare facilities under a new online system could give Malaysia's medical tourism sector a boost, the Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) said.

Its president, Datuk Dr Kuljit Singh, said the development of the e-CKAPS portal, which will enable private healthcare facility licensing to be conducted entirely online from next year, is expected to reduce processing times by up to 65 per cent.

He said the initiative was among the healthcare measures welcomed by APHM in the 2027 Budget, alongside efforts to strengthen public-private collaboration and improve patients' access to treatment.

"Faster licensing will cut waiting times for approvals and give a welcome boost to Malaysia's medical tourism sector," he said in a statement.
