KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's creative arts sector is set for a major boost, thanks to over RM130 million allocated under Budget 2027 to strengthen local film, music, and digital content.
Presenting the budget in Parliament today, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the funding includes special financial incentives for both local and international filmmakers who choose to shoot in Malaysia. Extra perks will also go to projects that showcase and celebrate the country's culture and identity.
To encourage more people to support local entertainment, cinema and theatre tickets in the Federal Territories will be completely exempt from entertainment tax from 2027.
Meanwhile, local animators will receive dedicated support to help create 20 new original character brands, paving the way to bring uniquely Malaysian stories to the global stage.
