Singapore’s economy is expected to expand by between 4.5% and 5.5% this year, according to the Monetary Authority of Singapore. (MAS pic)SINGAPORE: Singapore’s central bank will likely deliver another incremental round of monetary tightening, to keep a lid on inflation risks from oil and the artificial-intelligence (AI) boom.

Seventeen out of 20 economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) to make the slope of its policy band steeper at its quarterly meeting on Wednesday, while three predicted no change.

The MAS, which uses the exchange rate as its main policy tool rather than interest rates, has steadily tightened the settings this year.

It increased the so-called slope in April — a move that allows faster appreciation of the currency — and did so again “very slightly” in July.
