(EPA Images pic)LOS ANGELES: The Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday ruled out off-season surgery for Shohei Ohtani following the Japanese superstar's injury-hit end to the season.
An ailing Ohtani's poor form was blamed as one of the key factors for the Dodgers' failed playoff campaign, which ended in a 4-0 series sweep to the Milwaukee Brewers last week.
Ohtani, 32, had struggled with knee and biceps problems since July, and the Dodgers have faced scrutiny over their management of the four-time Most Valuable Player's injuries leading into the playoffs.
But while some commentators have questioned whether Ohtani's grueling pitching and hitting workload was behind his dip in form, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Wednesday Ohtani would continue to pitch next season.
