MELAKA: DAP has decided not to contest the Bemban seat in the Melaka election after assessing that its chances of winning were slim.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the decision was made on strategic grounds to ensure the party could focus its machinery, resources and attention on seven seats where it stood a better chance of winning.

He said DAP assessed each seat based on its chances of winning rather than simply considering the party's traditional position in a particular constituency.

He said Bemban was the only seat contested by DAP in the previous election where the party finished third, while it came second in the other seats it failed to win.
