GEORGE TOWN: Penang remains on alert over rabies following a human case reported in neighbouring Kedah, authorities said.
The Penang Health Department is working with the Veterinary Services Department to monitor the situation.
State Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi said Penang had no recorded human rabies cases, with the last reported case in 1975, 51 years ago.
"We are on full alert and in a state of preparedness to deal with any incident," he said at the Premis Bersih, Bebas Asap 2026 programme at Food Bayana in Bayan Lepas.
Gooi urged members of the public who are bitten by animals to seek immediate treatment.
