BN MP Suhaimi Nasir stressed that the main objective of targeted subsidies such as BUDI95 was to ensure assistance was distributed more equitably, particularly to the B40 and M40 income groups.KUALA LUMPUR: An MP has urged the finance ministry to disclose the actual amount of BUDI95 subsidies and the RM100 Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) assistance received by high-income households to assess the effectiveness of Putrajaya’s targeted subsidy policy.
Suhaimi Nasir (BN-Libaran) said the information was important to determine whether government subsidies and assistance were reaching those in need or also providing substantial benefits to high-income groups.
He acknowledged that more than RM80 billion had been allocated for subsidies, assistance and incentives in 2027, including RM40 billion for fuel subsidies, but questioned whether the amount of assistance was commensurate with the rising cost of living.
