A migrant smuggling syndicate is believed to charge RM3,500 to RM10,000 to bring undocumented migrants into Kelantan by sea

KOTA BHARU: A migrant smuggling syndicate is believed to be charging between RM3,500 and RM10,000 to bring undocumented migrants into Malaysia through sea routes in Kelantan.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) deputy director-general (Operations) Maritime Vice-Admiral Mohd Zawawi Abdullah said the modus operandi involved foreign nationals travelling overland through Thailand before entering the country via Kelantan’s waters.

He said investigations into previous arrests revealed that some individuals flew from Singapore to Phuket, Thailand, before continuing their journey overland to enter Malaysia.
