KUALA LUMPUR: The 521kg of methamphetamine seized from a private jet in Laos did not originate from Malaysia and is believed have been destined for the Philippines.

Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the chartered private jet had flown empty from Subang Airport to Luang Prabang, Laos, before the drugs were loaded onto the aircraft.

"The drugs seized were meant for the Manila, Philippines market and not Malaysia.

"The aircraft departed from Subang Airport for Luang Prabang without any cargo. The drugs were only loaded onto the aircraft in Laos and are believed to have been destined for Manila," he said in a statement today.

Hussein said Malaysian police were informed by Lao authorities today that they had foiled the large-scale transnational drug-smuggling attempt at Luang Prabang International Airport on Oct 1.
