KOTA BHARU, Oct 7 — While children his age may spend their free time playing video games, 10-year-old Nik Imanuddin Hadeef Nik Izdiharuddin is engrossed in wayang kulit puppets, practising different voices for each character just like a seasoned puppeteer.
Deeply passionate about the traditional art, the young boy is also adept at drawing and carving wayang kulit puppets, besides learning to play the musical instruments that accompany the performances.
None of this was forced upon him. Instead, it all stemmed from an interest sparked by a school assignment about two years ago.
“I want to be a doctor, but I also want to play wayang kulit until I die,” the youngster told Bernama at his home in Kampung Kubang Sipot here.
