PETALING JAYA: Police have crippled seven syndicates involving 47 people linked to the theft of cables and equipment, as well as break-ins at telecommunication premises in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, this year.
Total losses are estimated at RM4.5 million.
Nilai police chief Johari Yahya said the arrests involved suspects aged 17 to 58 from groups such as Geng Krol Copperstrip, Geng Leong Kabel, Geng Usop Klang, and Geng Intheren Kabel IPG, all detained in the Nilai and Klang Valley areas.
He said the syndicates broke into telecommunication tower sites to steal copper cables, cable drums and telecommunication components, and impersonated telecommunication company personnel to deceive the authorities.
