KUALA LUMPUR: Independent mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing continued their European fairytale by cruising into the last-16 of the Hylo Open in Saarbrücken, Germany, on Wednesday.
World No. 24 Pang Ron-Pei Jing comfortably outplayed Dutch world No. 182 Joep Strooper-Sterre Bang 21-13, 21-13 at the Saarlandhalle Indoor Arena.
The Malaysian pair began their European swing on a quiet note, losing in the first round of the Arctic Open in Vantaa, Finland, three weeks ago, but bounced back to reach the semi-finals of the Super 750 Denmark Open in Odense a week later.
Their run got even better last week when they emerged as runners-up at the French Open in Paris, their second such achievement in a Super 750 tournament after the China Masters in September.
