KUALA LUMPUR: Hyrox Malaysia has backed down over its alcohol sponsorship controversy after the Youth and Sports Ministry threatened to withhold approval for its 2026 Kuala Lumpur fitness race.

In a statement posted on Instagram on Wednesday, the organiser apologised for the backlash caused by the earlier announcement of the regional sponsorship arrangement, admitting it had failed to take sufficient account of Malaysia's religious and cultural sensitivities.

"We understand why this has caused concern and offence, and we should have given greater consideration to the religious beliefs and cultural values of our Malaysian community.

"We got this wrong, and we take responsibility for that," it said.
