KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) has welcomed the decision to give employers until June 2027 to prepare for the minimum wage increase from RM1,700 to RM2,000 a month.

MEF senior adviser for government, media and international engagement Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said the transition period would give businesses time to plan while minimising disruption to employment and operations.

He said a reasonable adjustment period, coupled with support for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), would help improve workers' incomes without undermining business sustainability and job security.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the increase when tabling 2027 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat today, saying it would benefit more than four million workers.
