KUALA LUMPUR: The Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca) has welcomed the substantial allocation for education under the 2027 Budget, but cautioned that parents continue to face rising school-related expenses.

Its chief executive officer Dr Saravanan Thambirajah said Fomca welcomed investments in school infrastructure, repairs to dilapidated schools, maintenance, early schooling assistance and supplementary food programmes.

"Education is a fundamental right, and access to quality education should not depend on a family's financial position.

"However, Fomca wishes to highlight that parents continue to face increasing school-related expenses, including uniforms, transportation, learning materials, extracurricular activities and other contributions," he said.
