JOHOR BARU: Singapore stopped 265 foreign motorists with outstanding fines at its land checkpoints during a three-day operation, recovering more than S$639,000 (about RM2 million) in unpaid summonses.
The Singapore traffic police operation, conducted from Sept 28 to 30, comes ahead of tighter restrictions on foreign-registered vehicles with unpaid fines.
Under the new rules that will take effect on Nov 2, vehicles with outstanding summonses will not be eligible to apply for or renew their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) with Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA).
This includes drivers with outstanding fines for traffic, parking or vehicular emissions offences committed in Singapore.
