KUALA LUMPUR: Two members of parliament have raised concerns over the safety and continuity of the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) following last month's helicopter crash that killed five people in Long Lellang, Sarawak.
Dr Kelvin Yii (PH-Bandar Kuching) questioned the use of a 35-year-old Bo 105 helicopter for the service, as well as the maintenance oversight of aircraft operated by Layang-Layang Aerospace.
He said the helicopter was manufactured in 1991, while production of the model ceased in 2001. He added that the company suspended its entire Bo 105 fleet two days after the crash.
"If the suspension was necessary, why was it not carried out before this tragedy happened?" he said during the debate on the Health Select Committee's report in the Dewan Rakyat.
