KUALA LUMPUR: Doubles star Low Zi Yu was heartbroken after coming close to breaching the Great Wall before favourites China recovered to secure their 16th Suhandinata Cup triumph in Cairo with a 2-1 win on Saturday.
Zi Yu and Ahmad Redzuan Zulwaqqarizal, the Asian junior champions, had to do double duty, playing in the mixed doubles, girls' doubles and boys' doubles during a titanic battle in which China prevailed 55-46, 53-55, 55-45 to defend their crown.
Zi Yu, who was instrumental in helping Malaysia bounce back in the second game, dragged the team from 18-22 to 33-30 in the girls' doubles alongside Genevie Lim.
However, she was disappointed that China's depth did not allow Malaysia to keep pace in the decisive third game.
