KUALA LUMPUR: Cybersecurity should be treated as a national security priority rather than merely an information technology concern, as cyber breaches involving sensitive government data could have wider implications for the country, industry players said.

Aras Integrasi Sdn Bhd director of cybersecurity practice Faurani Jaafar said government agencies hold two broad categories of sensitive information, personal data belonging to citizens and information relating to the government itself (including details involving the procurement of assets).

"Even though we look at this from a cybersecurity perspective, our ability to prevent these incidents from happening actually contributes to national security.
