KUALA LUMPUR: Companies that fail to take concrete steps to reduce emissions will no longer be granted exemptions under the Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations.

Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup said all companies must comply with emission standards by 2030.

He said the regulations, which came into force in 2014, prohibit plants and factories from emitting more than 600 milligrammes per cubic metre.

"I issued a statement early last month that I will not be issuing any more exemptions. However, I know that the industries need time to implement the technology.

"They need to do their feasibility studies, and they need to do some renovations, some changes to implement the technology.
