MELAKA: The Melaka government plans to amend relevant state enactments to enable livestock to be registered using Quick Response (QR) codes next year, facilitating the tracing of owners in the event of road accidents or cattle theft.

Caretaker Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the move is an extension of the state's digitalisation drive previously introduced under the 'Kampung Digital' programme.

He said the system would allow an owner's details to be retrieved by scanning the QR code, particularly when stray livestock cause traffic collisions.

"At present, when cattle cause injuries in road accidents, no one steps forward to claim ownership because nobody knows who they belong to. So, if an accident occurs, we can scan to identify the owner and take legal action.
